Bank Training“As someone with prior experience serving on a banking board and participating in a few small nonprofit boards, I initially questioned how much I would benefit from the CFTEA Board Leadership Launchpad Program. However, even within the first module, I’ve already gained valuable insights that have positively impacted my current board involvement.

Being deeply engaged in nonprofit leadership both personally and professionally, I’ve come to appreciate the program’s emphasis on the diversity of board structures and governance models. One of the most significant takeaways for me has been understanding the wide range of ways boards can be organized and function effectively. This realization has challenged my previous assumptions and encouraged me to think more critically about how our board operates.

I now recognize the importance of observing and learning from multiple board environments. Exposure to different governance styles and practices can offer fresh perspectives, especially for long-standing board members who may be accustomed to a particular way of doing things. The notion that “this is how we’ve always done it” can unintentionally hinder growth and innovation. The program has reinforced the idea that adaptability and openness to change are essential for a board’s long-term success.

As a result of this learning, I plan to initiate discussions within my board about our current structure and explore opportunities for improvement. I will encourage my fellow board members to consider attending other board meetings or engaging in peer learning to broaden their understanding of governance practices. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and reflection, I believe we can strengthen our leadership and better serve our organization’s mission.

The CFTEA Board Leadership Launchpad Program has already proven to be a valuable resource, and I look forward to continuing through the modules and applying additional insights to enhance my contact in both my professional and personal life.”
