In 2018, CFTEA partnered with Lake Region & Fryeburg Area Adult Education to launch something powerful: the very first teller training program designed to help community members start meaningful careers at local banks and credit unions. The goal was simple – bringing community financial institutions together to enhance community careers with growth while attracting potential employees that might have never thought of a career in banking. Since then, the program has expanded to many adult education programs.

In 2019, Portland Adult Education enhanced the experience for those with English as a Second Language (ESL). Graduates of this program usually speak multiple languages when leaving their home countries.

This week marked the graduation of the 6th class of students at Portland Adult Education, who completed an impressive 255 hours of education, plus homework and typing practice. These students were the first to complete the newly updated CFTEA Frontline Fundamentals course, designed to replace outdated materials with modern, practical training.

Highlights included:
A hands-on field trip to Androscoggin Bank’s Learning Center
Support and access to a banking center provided by Bank of America

In attendance from CFTEA was Andrew Lederer (Executive Director) as well as Arielle Darling (Board Member) and Laura Pilon (Council Member)—both from Androscoggin Bank—to celebrate this inspiring milestone.

With support from nine financial institutions, CFTEA continues its mission to work alongside Adult Education centers to develop talent and open doors to bright futures in banking.
