It is with great sadness that CFTEA has prematurely lost a beautiful light in our community and the world. Mary Swift, a long-time student, tireless supporter, and cherished board member was more than a colleague. She was a constant source of kindness, energy, and purpose.
Mary had a gift for helping others in every way imaginable. Whether it was sharing her deep knowledge, drawing from years of experience, or offering practical ways to weave professional development into daily work, she gave generously. At Kennebunk Savings Bank, she championed a culture where developing leaders wasn’t just encouraged, it was a shared responsibility. She believed that strong subject matter experts had the opportunity to pass along their knowledge, shaping the next generation of bankers. Mary made sure these outstanding employees were given the tools for success for conducting rich, in-house courses. Her vision aligned deeply with CFTEA’s mission.
Her dedication didn’t stop at her own workplace. Over the past two years, Mary delivered powerful presentations to fellow board and council members, offering tangible strategies to strengthen their organizations as employers of choice through strong, intentional development. This fall, she was set to present for the third time alongside me, a collaboration we both looked forward to.
Mary was an outstanding board member and a personal friend. She was an example in collaboration and action. There is no question there’s a missing piece on our board and in the world with her absence. Mary brought light, humor, and encouragement into every interaction. As we approach our 100th anniversary, it is fitting that Mary will be recognized, her legacy forever woven into CFTEA’s history. I am grateful that colleagues, Mike Moloney and Valerie Hale from Kennebunk Savings Bank, will be there to accept the CFTEA Spotlight Award and Leaving a Legacy Award on her behalf. My one regret is not being able to present this award to Mary personally.
Mary leaves behind a lasting legacy, but even more importantly, she leaves behind memories of moments we were blessed to share with her. Our thoughts are filled with love, compassion, and comfort for her family, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her.
