At Training Magazine’s Training 2025 Conference & Expo, today’s keynote session was more than just a presentation—it was an immersive experience in curiosity, compassion, and change. Led by Narrative 4’s Kandice Cole and Lee Keylock, this interactive session challenged participants to step into the power of storytelling as a leadership tool. There was excitement and apprehension.

Through a unique “Story Exchange” methodology, participants paired up to share personal stories—deeply listening and reflecting on life-changing moments. Then, they took on an even greater challenge: retelling their partner’s story as if it were their own. The result? A room filled with hundreds of engaged professionals, sharing, connecting, and transforming perspectives.

Why does this matter? Narrative 4, a global nonprofit, has validated this method as a powerful tool for enhancing cultural competency, improving communication, and strengthening relationships.

CFTEA Executive Director, Andrew Lederer, reflected on the impact:

“There was a profound sense of responsibility in holding someone’s story and honoring it. It was as if we held another’s vulnerability in our hands—expressing it, feeling it, and understanding it in a deeply personal way.” He continued, “While each story was unique, common themes and connections emerged. In many ways, we developed the ability to ‘experience’ a situation we had never personally encountered.”

This exercise reinforces a vital truth: Great leaders don’t just communicate—they connect, inspire, and empower. They use the power of storytelling to drive engagement, foster empathy, and create lasting impact.
