Most people think of “going back to school” as a step that requires leaving the workforce. That’s the assumption we’ve been working to break.

A professional woman stands beside a peaceful lake at sunrise, looking toward a stone bridge that leads to Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Oversized educational milestones create a pathway across the bridge, progressing from Certificate, Certification, Diploma, and College Credit to Bachelor's Degree, symbolizing career and academic growth. The top of the image features the CFTEA 100 Years logo alongside the Saint Joseph's College of Maine logo. On the right, text reads, "Your experience. Your education. Your future." with a note explaining that CFTEA courses can transfer into Saint Joseph's College business degree programs. A gold banner across the bottom displays cftea.org in large white lettering.Saint Joseph’s College of Maine and CFTEA built a pathway together that lets working professionals earn a bachelor’s degree with a banking major without putting their career on hold. The pathway works because of the partnership. CFTEA’s affordable, self paced courses transfer in as significant credit toward a Saint Joseph’s degree. The math gets meaningful quickly.

A recent example: Jack at Virginia National Bank completed 17 CFTEA courses. Those courses transferred in as 51 of the 120 credit hours required for his Saint Joseph’s degree. Nearly half of his bachelor’s came through his bank’s CFTEA partnership. He finished his degree at 20.

In his own words:

“The process of transferring credits to SJCME was very straightforward and easy to complete. The CFTEA courses also served as an excellent stepping stone into the rigor and expectations of SJCME coursework by helping me develop the discipline, time management, and study habits necessary to succeed in a college environment.”

The pathway works for individual learners pursuing their own goals. It also works for organizations that want to support continued education for their teams without sending them back to a four-year campus.
