In this course you’ll learn key components of compassionate dementia care, including strategies for redirection, validation, and uncovering unmet needs. This course provides opportunities to practice and apply new knowledge through a variety of interactive exercises. With the right mindset, the right knowledge, and the right tools, you can improve communication and, ultimately, improve care for a person living with dementia.

The course begins by examining what an EMS response to a dementia-related call typically looks like and then dives deeper into best practices and strategies for improving the typical response. Through a deeper understanding of communication and de-escalation techniques, EMS workers will be better equipped to handle dementia crises and ensure the safety and well-being of those involved.
